The Orkney Community Planning Partnership is delighted to announce the publication of the Orkney Community Wealth Building (CWB) Anchor Charter on its website.
Signed by the leadership of key local organisations – including Orkney Islands Council, NHS Orkney, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Skills Development Scotland, UHI Orkney, HITRANS, Voluntary Action Orkney, and the Local Action Group – this Charter sets out a shared commitment to embed Community Wealth Building principles across Orkney.
Community Wealth Building is a people-centred approach to economic development that ensures wealth is retained locally, creating fair employment, supporting local businesses, and fostering inclusive ownership. The Charter outlines pledges across five key pillars:
- Fair Employment and Just Labour Markets
- Spending and Local Procurement
- Making Financial Power Work for Local Places
- Socially Just Use of Land, Sea, and Property
- Inclusive Ownership
This collaborative effort aims to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable local economy that delivers social justice, environmental sustainability, and prosperity for all.
